Nowadays, when you go to a bookstore, they have a section on Yoshida Shoin because of the drama.
…I went to a prep school for a little while when I was an unemployed student, and that’s where I learned the anecdotes of Shoin.
I don’t know if it’s true, because it’s just an anecdote, and I don’t think it will be portrayed in the drama, but
It is said that Shoin worked hard to study even while he was in Noyama Prison.
Then, the criminals around him said.
It’s impossible to get out once you’re in here. It’s no use studying.
It’s no use studying.
In response to this, Shouin replied with the following words.
I don’t know…
There is a difference between dying knowing and dying not knowing!
Woohoo!!!!
After this, the sinners around him were reformed and began to receive teachings from Shoin.
Then, a miracle happens.
Shoin is let out of Noyama Prison.
…These are words that still linger in my mind.
